The athletic department at Lutheran West fosters a spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork, emphasizing values of integrity and perseverance both on and off the field and developing student-athletes into young adults who will go on to be leaders and difference-makers in their careers, families, and communities.
Longhorn Athletic programs have existed since the founding of Lutheran West in 1958, but as a Center of Excellence made possible through the continuing Forward in Faith capital campaign, Lutheran West hopes to:
- expand athletic offerings, especially at the middle school level
- introduce students to athletics-adjacent courses and potential career paths, such as Athletic Training, Sports Management, Broadcasting, Sports Media, and more.

Lutheran West now offers middle school athletic programs in boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ track & field, cross country, volleyball, boys’ wrestling, and girls’ wrestling.
Our athletic programs aim to teach students what it means to compete graciously, work diligently, and prioritize servant leadership, instilling habits needed to be successful not only while in a Longhorn uniform, but in all of their endeavors.”
