CLHSA

Cleveland Lutheran High School Association

The Cleveland Lutheran High School Association (CLHSA) is an organization which serves and supports both of Greater Cleveland’s Lutheran high schools: Lutheran High School West in Rocky River, OH and Lutheran High School East in Cleveland Heights, OH.

The CLHSA has its origins in 1946, when Lutheran congregations across Northeast Ohio formally convened to establish their resolve to build a Lutheran High School in Cleveland. On September 7, 1948, forty-eight students from 19 congregations began school at Lutheran High School (2648 Prospect Avenue in Cleveland). In 1956, Cleveland’s Innerbelt freeway was proposed, resulting in the State of Ohio’s exercise of eminent domain on the school’s downtown property. The following year, ground was broken on the 17-acre plot of land in Rocky River that would become Lutheran High School West and the 12-acre property in Cleveland Heights that would become Lutheran High School East. Since then, both schools have operated continuously, serving thousands of students throughout the decades.

The mission of the CLHSA is to provide an excellent educational experience for students in a Christ-centered environment.

The CLHSA office is adjacent to Lutheran High School West and includes the offices of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Development, Director of Communications, and financial offices. The CLHSA works closely with the administrations, faculty, and staff at both schools.

Aside from supporting day-to-day operations of the high schools, the CLHSA’s primary objective is to promote giving to the Association, which enables the schools to continue their missions and provide Christian education to more deserving students.
