Columbia 3, Lutheran West 1

After dropping two straight by a combined total of 25 runs, Lutheran West went into the game against division leading Columbia with not a lot of hope. The pitching staff depleted and another game on Friday, LW was counting on Jake Dersi to pitch a majority of the game. Dersi did that and more, keeping LW in the game until the final out.
Dersi was excellent throughout the night, and while he took the loss, it was really the lack of hitting that cost LW the game. Dersi threw a complete game, walked only one, and scattered seven hits all while only allowing three runs. Defensively, LW played a solid game—committing for the first time on the year, no errors.
Offensively, LW did little. Sophomore Derek Naim and senior Jonathon Molnar had the only hits, and, save the seventh inning when they put runners on the corners with two outs –Naim’s single and a walk to senior Tony Haberkorn, they never had the tying run on base. In the first five innings, they managed only two base runners, and never did a runner reach second base.
Still the game was a complete contrast to the last two games when LW allowed 36 runs, 18 free passes and 10 errors. Yesterday, LW allowed three runs, walked one, and committed zero errors.
