Brooklyn 16, Lutheran West 6

In one of the most disappointing games of the season, Lutheran West fell to visiting Brooklyn in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate. Poor control led to two big innings that did in the Longhorns.
LW walked nine in the game and paid the price. In the deciding fifth inning alone, LW walked five Hurricanes—including the first four batters of the inning. All five scored.
LW led the game 4-0 after a first inning where they scored four runs thanks to four errors by Brooklyn. Junior starter CJ Griffin gave it all back and then some in the second when he allowed three singles, a walk, and a double in the second. Brooklyn was not on top 6-4.
LW gave up an unearned run in the third and an earned run in the fourth, but had worked Brooklyn’s starting pitcher to 84 pitches at the end of the fourth. Fans were feeling optimistic that the Longhorns could break through being only down by 4.
The wheels then fell off the wagon when sophomore Aaron Geye, throwing in his third inning of work in the top of the fifth, walked the first four batters of the inning, got a ground ball that was booted at third, and then gave up a single to make the score 11-4. Geye was relieved by sophomore Colin McCartney who promptly gave up a walk, a single, and a double before ending the inning.
As LW fans had expected, West was able to get to the Brooklyn starter in the bottom of the fifth for two runs, but it was way too little, way too late.
