WALSH JESUIT IRONMAN --  James Handwerk advanced to the semi-finals with a 9-6 win over Buser from Tampa Jesuit. In the semifinal match he faced Jeremy Thomas of Calvary Chapel, California. Thomas is ranked 9th in the nation and has committed to wrestle for the University of Oklahoma next year. After a scoreless first, Handwerk took a 1-0 lead into the third period. Thomas tied the match at one with an escape and scored a takedown going out of bounds. Coach Ressler argued the call to no avail. Thomas took the 3-1 lead with less than a minute left. Handwerk scored an escape to make it 3-2 but could not get another point and dropped down to the consolation bracket. In the consolation semi-final match Handwerk faced Garrett Jordan of St. Paris Graham. Handwerk controlled the entire match getting takedowns in the first and third periods and winning 5-0. In the finals Handwerk defaulted to Brandon Dallavia of Blair Academy to finish fourth. Dallavia is ranked 2nd in the country and has committed to wrestle for Stanford University. "James had a great tournament. He tweaked his ankle in the semi-final and it tightened up too much before the final match," commented Coach Ressler afterwards. "He didn't want to risk injury so he defaulted in the final round."
