The Lutheran West Wrestling Team kept up their winning ways with a come from behind victory over Midview Thursday night. Down by 11 with two matches to go the Longhorns got pins by sophomore Kristian Bremer and junior Ian Long to pull out the 37-36 win. This was the first Longhorn victory over the Middies in school history. The Longhorn wrestlers improved to 6-0 on the season.
The Middies got off to a fast start with a forfeit at 106 and a pin at 113.  Sophomore Tim Mecklenburg put the Longhorns on the board with a first period pin at 120lbs.  Senior Bryce Deblock cut the lead to 12-10 with a major decision at 126lbs.  Midview extended the lead to 18-10 with a pin at 132lbs.  Senior Chance Huey won a hard fought decision 8-3 at 138lbs to put the score at 18-13 Midview.  Senior Gevin Maxwell came up with a big pin at 145lbs to give the Longhorns their first lead of the night 19-18.
Midview then poured on 12 more points with wins at 152, 160 and 170lbs.  Senior Andrew Liese cut the deficit to 30-25 with a quick first period pin.  After giving up a forfeit at 195 the Longhorns found themselves down by 11 with two bouts left.  At 220lbs Bremer secured a second period pin and Long sealed the exciting come from behind victory with a pin in the second period.  “This is one of the biggest dual meet wins in school history,” stated Coach Dave Ressler.  “We’ve never been able to beat Midview.  Giving Midview 18 points in forfeits made our guys know they had to get pins and they came through.”
