CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS --
The Lutheran West Women’s Basketball Team faced old MAC-8 rival Cuyahoga Heights in their third game of the season. The Lady Longhorns started out strong, scoring the first basket of the game. Right from the tip it seemed to be a fairly even competition.

The Longhorns were up by eight early. West was hitting shots and it seemed like they were going to pull away for their first victory of the year. Cuyahoga Heights came right back at the end of the half, however, to cut West’s lead to two points, 22-20.

The first few minutes of the third quarter seemed to be the turning point in the game because Cuyahoga Heights started making jump shots. The whole atmosphere turned around and emotions got the best of Lutheran West. West struggled to run successful out-of-bounds plays under the hoop, resulting in a turnover several turnovers.

Missed free throws and costly turnovers doomed the game for the Lady Longhorns, who ended up losing 47-39. Cuyahoga Heights’ power forward Deana Lewis was just too strong for Lutheran West to handle. She ended the game with 19 of the Redskins’ 47 points. The high scorers for West were junior Lindsey Tomola with 11, and juniors Amanda Stephens, Ari Tomasula, Marissa Spelich, and Lindsay Thomas with six points apiece.
