ROCKY RIVER --  With control of their own destiny, the Longhorns rolled their way to victory and outright ownership of the PAC-12 Stripes Division, 2013-2014 title, beating Black River 74-25.

It was clear from the start that the two teams were completely unmatched. The Longhorns jumped on the Pirates right from the start and were ahead 19-4 after just one quarter of play.

They continued to push and did not give up in any way, going into the half with a 40-10 lead.

The second half of the game was just as unmatched as the first half, with Lutheran West continuing to score and hold their opponents on defense.

Black River seemed to be overwhelmed by the Longhorns and could not find any comfort on the court. West was able to create this mismatch by setting their tempo early and playing their game; they didn’t sink to the level of their opponents which so often happens in mismatches like this.

The game was a nice way to finish the season and showcased a lot of LW’s strengths. They played well on both sides of the floor and showed great effort. The team also had a chance to show their depth and allow younger members to gain valuable time on the floor.

In addition, in the victory, the Longhorns played like a team and showed intensity that they will need coming up in their postseason play, starting Tuesday at home versus Elyria Catholic. They came together and worked as a cohesive unit on the court and were able to transition and run their game smoothly.

Lutheran West’s top scorer was senior Max Quinn who had 15 points.

The team finishes the regular season at 18-4 overall and 14-3 in conference play. The conference championship is also the first for Lutheran West since the 2010-2011 season.
