ROCKY RIVER --  Senior Nick Gambetta threw four strong innings and had three RBIs as West took care of business Monday against a surprisingly feisty Fuchs Mizrachi team.  West won its first game of the season for the third time in the last four years, scoring six times in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.

With West up 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the flood gates opened.  Freshman Matt Brosky opened the inning with a strong single to center.  After junior Tommy Walker was hit by a 3-2 pitch, sophomore Josh Cales smoked a double to right center to plate both junior Brady Rujawitz—who had pinch-run for Brosky—and Walker.  Sophomore Scott Berghaus continued the hit parade with a double to right, plating Cales.  Gambetta then drilled a single to center to drive in Berghaus.  Later in the inning, senior Sam Jakabcic—who had three hits and a pair of RBIs on the day—drove in freshman Owen Albers on a sharp single to left.  Jakabcic then scored the sixth run of the inning on a single to right by sophomore Mike Felten.

Overall in the game, West totaled 14 hits from 9 different players.
Gambetta (W, 1-0) allowed only three hits and three runs (two earned) in four innings of work, striking out eight and walking three.  At the plate, Gambetta also had two hits and three RBIs.

The Longhorns will play their first conference game on Wednesday at home against Wellington.
