ROCKY RIVER --  They say that the best pitchers can win even without their best stuff.

Last night, senior pitcher Aaron Geye did just that, winning for the fifth time in the year despite struggling all night.  Geye threw all seven innings, allowing three runs—two earned—on five hits, walking three and striking out seven.  He was frequently in trouble—Brooklyn stranded seven runners—and had only one 1-2-3 inning in the game, but always threw the big pitch when he needed it.
Offensively, West did little to help Geye, scoring only four runs off of crafty left hander Ryan Baker. West scored first in the third when senior Eric Szczepinski doubled to center and then scored on sophomore Tim Gettinger’s RBI single up the middle.  They scored again in the fourth when freshman Josh Cales walked with the bases loaded and one out.  West scored twice in the fifth.  After a one out single from senior Collin McCartney, a wild pitch moved him to second.  Geye then singled to left and McCartney scored when the Brooklyn left fielder mishandled the ball.  Geye later scored that inning when sophomore Tommy Walker hit his second double of the game.

With the win West advances to 8-5 overall and 7-4 in conference.
