ROCKY RIVER --  Lutheran West extended their winning streak to five straight with a win versus Columbia. Junior Aaron Geye put up another great outing, pitching seven scoreless innings, while gaining his second win of the season.
The key to this match-up was the Longhorns’ pitching and defense. Geye retired Columbia’s batters quickly, never facing more than four batters an inning, while holding them to only four hits. Behind him, West’s defense played cleanly, committing no errors and making the important outs that contributed to the shut-out.
While the team’s defense held the Raiders, the offense scored the runs needed to win. The team only had six hits, but they converted and scored five runs, three of which were earned. Senior Tyler Cerny had two hits for the Longhorns while senior CJ Griffin had two RBIs.
The Longhorns will next face Buckeye, in a make-up game. The Longhorns stand at 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in PAC-12 action.
