ROCKY RIVER --  The Longhorns showed up strong on offense to dominate their opponents, Christian Community School, 13-0. As a team, they put up 13 hits by 10 different batters, 7 of which came on extra base hits.
Right from the start, West’s offense exploded. The team put up four runs in the first inning starting with a double by junior Eric Szczepinski and culminating with a triple by junior Aaron Geye that scored the last RBI of the inning. The biggest at-bat of the Longhorns’ night was when, in the fourth inning, junior Joe Peters hit a grand slam in his first varsity plate appearance, sealing the ten-run lead needed for the mercy-rule victory.
The offensive showing was a great confidence booster for the Longhorns, but their defense also stepped up and was a big contributor in the win. Senior Eric Lewis pitched four complete innings, gaining the win on the mound in his first start of the season. He pitched strong allowing only one hit, two walks, and eight strikeouts. Behind Lewis, the Longhorns fielded cleanly and committed no errors, an aspect to the game that will be crucial for them in upcoming match-ups.

With the win, the Longhorns move to 2-4 on the season and will face conference rival Fairview in an away game on Monday.
