Lutheran West Athletics:
An Opportunity to Represent Christ
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23)

Lutheran West’s athletic program strives to assist athletes in their spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth. Teams are built to achieve not only excellence and athletic victory but also to display God-pleasing words and behavior in all situations. The program’s intent is to guide young people to "grow both in body and in wisdom, gaining favor with God and all who know them." (Luke 2:52).

Interscholastic athletics are an important part of Lutheran West. Through voluntary participation, athletes are asked to unselfishly give their time, energy, and loyalty to the program. The participating athletes accept rules and regulations as outlined by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association, and Lutheran West. These rules and regulations are summarized in the school's Athletic Code.

Lutheran West athletics are designed to:
  • Teach athletes the skills, knowledge, and love of sports which will enrich their lives now and in the future.
  • Exemplify good sportsmanship, demonstrating how to accept decisions and responsibilities in a Christ-like manner.
  • Build self-confidence, self-discipline, perseverance, cooperation, and leadership skills.
  • Encourage athletes to strive for excellence, providing the opportunity to develop God-given abilities.
  • Offer activities which develop a sense of unity and pride among staff, students, athletes, and other members of the Lutheran West family.

Athletic Program Offerings

Interscholastic athletic programs are offered at the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman levels, whenever possible.

The Freshman and Junior Varsity programs are designed to prepare athletes for Varsity competition. Development of individual skills and the teaching of team concepts are the primary focus in these programs; because of the nature of interscholastic sports, coaches will also strive to represent Lutheran West as a competitive force.

The number of participants in each athletic program will be determined by their respective coaching staff and the athletic administration of Lutheran West.
