My husband (Phil) and I have often talked about our decision to send our four children to Lutheran West. I was working part-time as a nurse and Phil was teaching in a public high school when our eldest was ready to enter high school. We wanted a Christian learning environment, with role models that would supplement the values we were teaching
our children at home. We found this environment at Lutheran West.

My parents made the decision to send both me and four younger siblings to Lutheran West.  Many financial sacrifices were made for this to happen, although in looking back, I don’t remember feeling deprived in any way. My high school years were wonderful; my faith was nurtured, I made life-long friendships, and I was well prepared for college. My teachers were exemplary Christian models who made an effort to know me and took an interest in helping me plan for my academic future. I got to know them as well. I noted the devotion they had to teaching high school kids (hormones and all!), and especially their love for Jesus, demonstrated in their service to Him and the teaching of His word. Their influence on my life lasted more than four years. After many years in a medical profession, I returned to school to become a teacher. Today, I teach 5th graders at Messiah Lutheran School in Fairview Park.

Although many years span the high school experience between my children and me, I look at the Lutheran West years through parental eyes and the perspectives of my children now.  Student-led devotions are part of the sports programs. A contemporary chapel setting and a wide range of course opportunities are available today. I see a school that is preparing its students to be productive, contributing members of society and Christian heads of households. Two of our children have graduated from college and are working in their fields of study while two are still in college. We are pleased with the influence that a Christian education has provided them. I suppose we made sacrifices in sending our children to Lutheran West, but nobody remembers feeling deprived in any way. To God be the glory!

It’s amazing how one decision can influence the course of a life!

The high schools take our youth at very changing and challenging times in their lives and hold them in His care and mold them in the way He has taught us.
