Six Students Qualify for State History Day

Lutheran West CCP U.S. History students competed in the Region 3 History Day Contest at the Cleveland History Center and the Case Western Reserve University's School of Law on Saturday March 3rd.  The theme for this year's National History Day was "Conflict and Compromise in History".  The students competed in 5 different categories, including historical research papers, websites, exhibits, documentaries and performances.  After presenting their topic, the students were interviewed by a group of judges.  Over 250 area high school students participated in the Region 3 contest.  

Lutheran West came away with several awards.  Winning the Cleveland Grays Armory Museum Military History Award were Daniel Gaydos, Mira Vanderlinden and Nicholas Verhun with their website "The Mexican-American War".  

Six Lutheran West students are advancing on to the state competition to be held at Ohio Wesleyan University on April 21st.  Placing third in the group performance category were Jadon Muniz, Jenna Copen, Meredyth Feit and Angelina Klopp with their performance on "The Cuyahoga River Fire".  Placing second was Emma Poole with her documentary, "Study of Conflict and Compromise".  Esther Nzomo won the historical research paper category with her topic "Rwandan Genocide:  A Conflict Ignored by the World".  The students CCP U.S. History teacher, Mr. Dave Ressler was also awarded the "David Van Tassel Award" for "Outstanding Contributions to History Day".  The award includes $250 for the Lutheran West History Department.  Congratulations to Mr. Ressler and the state qualifying students.
