LW Sends Two Women to Sectional Golf Tourn

Dave Ressler | Wednesday, September 27, 2017
Lutheran West girls golf participated in the state sectional tournament for the first time since the team won the sectional in 2015.  This year junior Kara VanHimbergen and sophomore Ashley Kuhrt played in the sectional tournament at Punderson Golf Course.  "Lutheran West has been going through a couple of rebuilding years so it feels good to have a couple of girls who can play in an 18 hole tournament", said Coach Dave Ressler.

Both Kuhrt and VanHimbergen had a tough first nine but regrouped at the turn to significantly lower their scores.  Kuhrt started the day by parring the first hole but struggled to get another par on the first nine.  VanHimbergen shaved 13 strokes from the front nine and Kuhrt lowered her score by 6 on the back.  VanHimbergen finished in 60th and Kuhrt finished 44th out of 72 girls.

"I am very proud of both Kara and Ashley today," continued Ressler.  "The heat was brutal and they never gave up and even got stronger as the day wore on.  I'm really looking forward to being even more competitive next season and hope to add to the team so we can compete as a team and not just individuals."
