Lutheran West Football Head Coach Frank Petroff has hired veteran coach Nick Toth to run the offense for the Longhorns. Toth brings a wealth of experience to Lutheran West having most recently served as a Defensive Assistant for NCAA Division I Fresno State University. A respected coach in the state of Ohio, Toth has served as head coach at Eastlake North High School, Holy Name High School, Toledo Central Catholic High School, and Columbia High School respectively. Serving as a head coach at the high school level Toth amassed 115 wins, 7 League Championships, 6 top eight finishes in the computer playoffs, 6 Coach of the Year Awards and served as president of the Northwest Ohio Coaches Association. Toth has captured two OHSAA state championships as a defensive coordinator with Toledo Central Catholic High School; one in 2012 with a record of 14-1 and one in 2014 with a record of 12-3. In 2014 he was named the Northwest Ohio Assistant Coach of the Year. At the high school level Toth has also served as an Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and Assistant Principal.

As well as coaching at Fresno State, Toth also has NCAA Division I experience serving in a number of capacities at Ohio University as the Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, and Special Teams Coordinator. As Defensive Coordinator, his defenses ranked in the top half of the Mid America Conference (MAC) four times. Under his leadership, the Special Teams led the nation in punt returns, twice ranked in the top 10 in the nation in kick-off and punt returns and led the MAC in kick-off and punt returns twice.

“Coach Toth brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Lutheran West football," said Lutheran West head coach Frank Petroff. "He has had success at all levels of coaching, including NCAA Division I. I was fortunate to work for Nick as a young coach and learned the game of football under his tutelage early in my career. He has been a loyal friend who has always challenged me when it comes to teaching the game of football. I am honored he has committed to becoming a part of our football staff and Lutheran West community.”

Toth will be tasked with bringing a new look to the Lutheran West offense in an effort to increase efficiency and productivity. Lutheran West will welcome back a bulk of the starting offense including starting quarterback Rory Zakareckis. “I am excited to reunite with Frank on the football staff at Lutheran West and coordinate the offense," said Toth when he met with the LW coaching staff. "My granddaughter is a freshman at West currently and my other granddaughter will be a freshman next year. I have had the opportunity to experience the Lutheran West community and I have enjoyed the atmosphere not only in the football program but the school as well. The opportunity to build something special with Coach Petroff is a great challenge I am looking forward to.”

“To bring Coach Toth on to our football staff and school community is an absolute home run," said Lutheran West Atheltic Director Ryan Miller when asked about the hire. "Coach Toth’s experience and perspective will certainly add tremendous value for our program. He has a genuine care for kids and their development as football players and young men. I trust he will put our kids in the best situation for their success as individuals and as a team.”
